This is a well established block of shops at a busy high traffic intersection.
The original shops had served the community for 100 years before the 2011 quakes took them out.
Canform Structures and Architect, Andrew Evans created a modern but fitting replacement with the use of timber steel and a roof that also acts as a veranda for Stockman Group. The design and construction resulted in a bronze award at the Master Builder’s Awards in 2017.
The replacement Opawa shops is now home to Magic Masala Indian, The Gelato Lab, SBA Opawa & a hairdressing salon.
Situated in the vibrant neighbourhood of the long established Opawa Village, surrounded by leafy streets and character homes, the replacement should easily do another 100 years of service.
